Airports, trains, and Glacier entrances

Match Kalispell, Whitefish, West Glacier, St. Mary, Many Glacier, or East Glacier Park to the side of the park where you will sleep.

Kalispell and Whitefish serve the west; St. Mary faces east

Glacier Park International Airport and the Empire Builder serve the region, but the park’s valleys remain separated by long drives and seasonal roads.

Kalispell · west-side air arrival

Glacier Park International Airport

The airport is north of Kalispell and serves the Flathead Valley. A rental car reaches Whitefish, Columbia Falls, West Glacier, and Apgar without crossing the park, but east-side lodging remains a separate drive.

Airport information

Whitefish, West Glacier, Essex, and East Glacier Park

Amtrak’s Empire Builder

The rail line serves multiple gateway stations, but trains do not replace transportation inside the park. Match the station to lodging and confirm a rental car, lodge transfer, or seasonal shuttle before booking.

Opposite ends of the Sun Road

West Glacier and St. Mary entrances

West Glacier leads to Apgar and Lake McDonald; St. Mary leads to the east side of Going-to-the-Sun Road. The National Park Service estimates the outside-the-park drive between them at about two hours, so a closed alpine section changes the whole route.

Directions and road conditions

Separate east-side approaches

Many Glacier and Two Medicine

Many Glacier branches west from Babb; Two Medicine is reached near East Glacier Park. Neither valley sits directly on the Sun Road, and seasonal construction or closures can affect the final approach.

Current conditions

2026 road, parking, and shuttle rules

No vehicle reservation in 2026

The National Park Service says vehicle reservations are not required anywhere in Glacier National Park in 2026. Entrance passes, campground reservations, and activity tickets remain separate.

Logan Pass parking is timed

Logan Pass uses a three-hour parking limit in 2026. The alpine lot fills quickly, and a space is never guaranteed.

The Logan Pass shuttle is ticketed

The 2026 shuttle runs July 1 through Labor Day, September 7. Tickets specify the boarding date, time, and location; confirm details before relying on the service.

Glacier’s entrances lead to separate valleys and trail systems.
